I just finished my first day as an intern for Interiors by BLP! (http://www.bettylouphillips.com/home.htm) It was crazy, but so much fun. I arrived at 9 a.m. sharp and got started right away. Betty Lou introduced me to Angela, her assistant, Nicola, the other intern, and Jackson, her pup, explained her recent and ongoing projects (including her new book!), and filled me in on everything I was expected to do. After getting settled and working with Nicola on ideas for photo shoots for the book, we went to lunch and then straight to the Dallas Design Center, which is amazing! Angela showed us how to make/process an order while purchasing a custom dinning room table for a Houston client at E.C. Dicken. We then went to Marroquin, a great upholstery place, where the dinning room chairs were being done for the same client. The staff was amazing and so nice, and even gave us (Nicola and I) a tour of their warehouse and thoroughly explained the process of creating and upholstering furniture. I had never seen anything like it! There was fabric, trim, and wood EVERYWHERE. It was really neat to see the actual stages of a living room couch come together.
Here are some photos of Marroquin:

So much fabric! And this is just their left overs…

In just one day, I have already seen and learned so much! I am so excited for the rest of the summer.
